Supporting Covestro employees to become effective mentors to the brightest environmental change makers of 2017

We are excited to announce the next instalment in our partnership with Covestro: The Covestro Mentorship Program. The DO School will collaborate with Covestro employees, supporting them to become effective mentors through skill building resources such as webinars, workshops and online learning materials. Working together with the UN Environment, the mentees will make up the Top 30 finalists of the Young Global Champions of The World competition – those 30 bright minds that are using innovation to tackle global environmental issues.

The DO School will facilitate the mentor-mentee relationship, and provide a platform in which collaboration and knowledge sharing can inform and help the people changing the world for the better.

What is the UN Environment Programme?

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global agenda for the environment, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate of the global environment.

UN Environment has teamed up with Covestro to empower young people to shape the future and safeguard the health of our planet. Together we have launched Young Champions of the Earth, a multi-year competition and mentorship scheme aiming to identify, celebrate and support talented individuals between 18 and 30 with outstanding potential to create positive environmental impact.

Each year, six young people – one from each global region – will be named Young Champions of the Earth. These winners receive seed funding, intensive training, and tailored mentorship to help them bring their big environmental ideas to life.

Young Champions of the Earth is a global stage for young people to showcase technological inventions and innovative business models that improve our planet’s health. The initiative aims to counter the negative discourse on the environment and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

Young Champions of the Earth is sponsored by Covestro.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals and why are they important?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal set of goals, indicators and targets to end poverty, protect the environment and ensure that every person on earth can enjoy a safe, peaceful and prosperous life.

The 17 Goals are meant and expected to be used as a common framework that all UN member states can use to set common agendas and political policies over the next 13 years. The goals include ending global poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, creating cleaner and more affordable energy sources, promoting gender equity and protecting the world's oceans and forests.

The SDGs are meant to spur aggressive change, diffuse and sustainable solutions to the most pressing challenges that threaten our collective quality of life, safety and planet.
